New feature 360° photos

Hello, just saw the new functionality. We now can add 360° photos in our account. But I can not see those pics in my booking.com website.

Does anyone has already experience with this new feature? I called the hotline, but they could not give me any information inspire of "it is obviously a new feature, but we do not know anything about it".

Kind regards

Christian

That sounds very interesting.

I would like to know more about it too, but haven't heard of such a thing.

Keep us posted if you hear/know more.

Greetings

Dear Aaltje B. if you go to your Extranet tab under Property to Photos scroll down and you will find the 360 new feature. I guess there we can upload our panoramic photos.
As soon as can use my computer I will try it... so now we have another gadget to play with....he.hehe..
Cheers!!!

Hello, I already uploaded these 360° pics, I have them already online on my own website.

But I cannot see them on the booking website yet, so I think the functionality is not yet online. Kind regards Christian

poor execution. never add a feature until its ready. and if you implement half way - warn users. i too uploaded 360 photos and wasted 15 minutes trying to figure out where guest prospects can see them. they cant ! there is no warning saying you can upload now but we dont know when guests can view them !

what's worse is its easy to add this functionality. it only takes a small javascript snippet to facilitate in-page 360 photo display.

Hei,

Miten saan siirrettyä sähköpostistani 360 kuvat booking.com sivulleni? Yritin kopioida linkin, mutta en saa sitä liitettyä kuviin, en siis siitä, jossa lukee upload 360 pictures ...

this appears to be a bug or foolish mistake in the application. you can "upload" but they are not displayed yet in listing. Kind of backwards way to roll out the feature.

"Dear partner,

at the moment you can prepare/add 360° photos in the Extranet, but functionality is not online yet.

For more information and additional questions please visit our Help Centre in Extranet: https://partnerhelp.booking.com/hc/en-gb

Kind regards,

This function sounds great and might make each flat exciting to look at.

When can we expect to get this cool feature?

I still uploaded a test picture there. :-)

Are there any news on this? After long investigating i found two hotels which got 360° photos in their gallery.

Is there a reason why this isn't a thing and why there are nearly no informations about this?

Hi pibomarco, thanks for your reply.

Your place is looking great. Do you just upload them as a regular Image in .jpg format ? I don't see any button for "virtual option".

In extranet under Property -> Photos there is a section "Introducing 360° Photos on your Property Page" -> you click on a buttoon "upload 360° photos".

Photos are in .jpg format yes.

Photos were made by a photographer that had special equipment. I guess photograps must be in high quality.

I can't find this section. But i assume i have to publish the property first to add it later. (just signed up at booking)

But good to know it is working in general.

Thank you so much for your informations, you helped me alot!

Can. I works.

https://www.booking.com/hotel/us/hoku.html?lang=xu

Upload them in your extranet - of course.

Now the question is, what are the best devices and methods for creating 360 photos.

I was using my android phone google maps street view app. I use a tripod for most of the images and have to take it off the tripod to make top and bottom shots where tripod is in the way.  When done, the app stitches all the photos together imperfectly but at least the resolution and exposures are pretty high quality.  Been using that method for many years.

Just bought a Xiaomi Mi Sphere Camera.   One shot does it but need to get a smaller tripod as it shows up big at the bottom of the photo.  Also it establishes focus on one area and applies it to all areas of the image so, if all objects are of similar distance to the lens only the region where the focus was established will be in focus - all other parts - usually 90% of the image is blurred and grainy.  Same problem with lighting.  So if you use it gotta take shots from the middle of the room not from the corner to get the best average focus.  Still not nearly as good resolution, light and focus as the Android Google Street 360 app.

Good luck and let us know what you are doing that works.  360 photos are ever more important post COVID

We are on January 12th 2022 and i still cannot upload photos 360° nor virtual tour made with Teliportme application. When i try to upload panos photos 360° i always have a message stating that it failled. I decreased the rsoluation to have a minor size but problem persist. I asked the Booking.com assistance but nobody can help ( even one explained me that these photos are not accepted ! )

Any reason known to prevent uploading these pano in the extranet ?

Maybe i can mention that i am using a Channel Manager whcij synchronize all details including rates and photos. I do not know if PMS Channel Managers do synchronize links used for virtual tours etc

I also use channel manager, so I guess this should not be an issue since I uploaded 360 photos directly on Booking.com.

However the upload in Booking concerns only 360° Panos and not virtual tours which can be viewed by web links only

Yes, only photos are allowed and in high quality. I don't know why it doesn't work. Who made 360 photos, a special team with their special equipment? Or you made it yourself with a phone.. I guess using equipment for 360 photos with phone can be an issue as it is "not" high quality enough? Just guessing..

Glad to learn that panos 360 ° can be directly uploaded in the Booking extranet contrarily to normal photos that are removed if directly loaded when a connection with the channel manager exist. Just note that after 5 days i had no reply from Booking assistance. I must say that having 360 ° photos for room is a great advantage. As you say maybe it is a reason. However as the quality was rather high °resoluation ( 5 Mo ) i even reduced in case it would be too heavy. i used a normal smartphone Blackview 9900 giving hight quality photos but i took photos with the application for which i made a subcription ( Teliportme ) So that i can make myself virtual tours

Maybe this can be the case. My 360 photo resolution is 11000x5500 and about 7 to 17Mb photo size. And were made with special camera. So reducing the quality is probably not the case.

Good afternoon,

one of the important restrictions for 360 images is that they must have a 2:1 aspect ratio ( its width must be 2x its height).

Please doublecheck the ratios and correct if necessary.

Very best regards

Ivana

Hello Pibomarco and Ivina

Great news : Folloning to Ivina suggestion i resized  2 photos panos taken with my smartphone and Teliport application which resulted in sizes of ratio 4.1 or so even more but when i resized it was uploaded without delay. Now when i take panos with my smartphone this is the regular ratio 4.1 which is set and i need now to check how to fix the parameteres to have ratio 2.1 automatically. Of course when i resize with paint the panos are not giving a normal image but the test is at least successful

Thanks botih for your help

360 photos are published/viewed in a separate section. Not as part of other regular photos.

Final conclusion of my research for new users of Panos 360° with Booking.com and thanks to Pibomarco and Ivana:

Just found that when using a smartphone the ratio will be usually 5:1 which DO NOT allow uploading  in the 360° photos of Booking as the ratio MUST be 1:2 always. One way is to arrange the pano ratio 5:1 in paint and add  above and below this photo any other image ( sea, sky etc  of the missing ratio) so that you transform the ratio to 1:2. Then when you upload in booking it appears that the mid section will appear like a normal 1:2 pano when turning it in booking page. Conclusion the best way is probably to buy a camera able to make direct 1:2 pano photos to avoid this special mounting
