-Aaltje-B-  I think promotions are the only way to get more reservations. In low seasons I give 15-20% discounts.  People are always seeking for better prices.  Last September when I visited a beautiful small island Elafonissos  in Peloponnese the lady was forced to  lower her prices to 50%. September is not  an off season in Greece but a  Mediterranean storm  Zorbas with tropical characteristics had struck the island, so she decided to reduce her prices.

Take care and wish you more bookings...

Lowering to 50% wouldn't make it profitable at all. The cost of renting out is not little...

Our offseason starts in April to October so it is half-half. I am thinking about doing creative stuff with people, but not formally functioning just yet. Upgrading some skills here at the mean time.

Aaltje-B-, lowering to 50% is certainly not profitable and I don’t agree with it. Creative stuff with people sounds very nice, let us know if possible.
Good luck to your new challenges...

Thing is Maria, we have to pay tax over profit, and lose our commission and there is rates, electricity, wood for fireplace etc, gas-cylinders for hot water, I do clean the unit myself, since too expensive to have that done by someone else. Then pay channel manager too. And paying device in case the other payment system doesn't work etc.

If the starting price is really high is summer, then 50% is ok, but it is very competitive price already. We have a lot of competition where we are, since we are on the world-wide map now.

Your situation might be different where you are?

But stoked with my 9.4 rating for Bdc award, it does come in handy to attract the right people.
