Hello Vera I also have folders with places of interest and places where to dine etc. Most of my guests also ask for information about the surroundings probably wanting to recheck or find something else. Personal contact is always welcomed by me.

Yes we also have this situation as well. But for us we take it as a good way to show our hospitality to guest and create a good experience for them.

Vera yes, like you I keep updated folders etc but might as well not bother they always ask me where to go and how to get there.Without actually knowing their interests it’s a minefield sending them to the right place, for instance a recent guest I suggested the science museum as she is a Doctor she has now gone home to get her 2 kids to see it.....the football fans are so easy as I’m very close to 2 Premier League clubs, one lovely American guests returning in December emailed yesterday to ask if I had a ticket for myself or should he get me sweet.

Thank you for the post. Pity, I did not read any like that BEFORE I started my first season. So all Summer long I had to search for info my guests needed

What are working hours of local Planetarium, where to rent a bike, where to rent an electro-scooter, where are nearest caves, what is the name of such and such flowers, where to buy a sort of local honey they read about in a book......etc, etc, etc.

Actually, I have a long list with the questions my guests asked me during the Season,

Now, I started making a special section on the hotel website, which will contain all info that could be useful for the guests.

Hi there Vera lloyd Farmilo ,

We sometimes have the same experience. But with places like Zomato and TripAdvisor, our guests sometimes tell us about places that we didn't know about. Perhaps you can research some trending phone apps and suggest put it in the brochure.

Like, hey check us out on "Zomato"!

We do have detailed attractions in and around the resorts posted on almost every website thinkable to man, but yes we also get the guests who arrive and ask us if there is anything to do.

    Cool topic!

    Keep well.

  • I don't get many requests, maybe just 10% of my guests ask me anything about the surrounding area.

However, I do proactively ask them myself if they plan to visit anything and give them very clear routes to take and places to go to.

I also play a role of taking the bigger groups to some places, just like a real guide :) They seem to love that.

Actually, Tuesday I'm taking some of my guests to see 3-4 amazing spots around the county. So that's what I enjoy doing as I did that before I started out with this business, for students who were under my care, who came to volunteer in the city or work on certain projects.

So if anyone needs a guide, call me up :)

It's a good way to get out and travel and actually get paid to do it.

    Warm regards,

    Zsolt -

We also have the local tourist brochures available for our guests. I make it a point to ask each guest if they have an itinerary and if they need any help please ask.  I find most guests even if they have idea's like feedback on their choices. Others arrive with no itinerary and most ask for some recommendations. We do not have any official agreements with any local business but recommend those that we have personally experienced. I often ask guests how their they liked places that we have not yet experienced ourselves to add to the list of places we need to visit.  I always have the laptop handy as well if I don't know then I consult Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc.

    Hey Zsolt,

That actually sounds like fun! (I am totally imagining you dressed in a full-on Travel Guide outfit right now! You know, the one with a hat that's mostly made of net, Khaki shirt with a lot of pockets, medium short khaki pants and knee-long khaki socks, holding a book hehe. Do you wear a uniform?)

We do offer game drives etc and those have Guides on them, but the entire event takes place on the property though. I myself am not qualified to be a guide in any sense of the word.

    Keep well!

  • Leandri, hahahaha, no!

You will never see me wearing such things. I despise uniforms and the whole idea of it.

Therefore you will most probably see me wearing a sports outfit so I can climb and walk around with people in all the places, even do some challenges.

    So, you're hiring? :))
