Eco friendly

Can we make our property more eco friendly? I try to clean my Studio with cleanses that are eco friendly. I mostly use white vinegar, baking soda, fresh lemons, olive soap, yogurt etc. By boiling fresh herbs and spices I prepare home deodorants. In my refrigerator I have
eggs, fresh goat milk and cheese which I buy from my neighbors that have their own goats. I also prepare afterbite mosquito lotions using fresh herbs from my garden. I have vases and pots with fresh herbs
instead of insect repellents inside and outside of my Studio. In my bathroom I have olive soap and almond oil instead of body cream. Of course my linen and towels are 100% cotton. Please let us have your suggestions.

Joey good morning ?. Thanks for your response. Here in my country Eco friendly is a very long and sad story. Unfortunately few people care about the environment so getting in the habit of even thinking doing some little things it will help. Starting from the bottom. Since my property is up in the hills thankfully air condition is used very scarcely and I urge my guests to wide open the windows and let the light breeze come in.
As for heating water I have a solar system so I thank our beautiful sun.
Lowering temperature in washing is a very good idea and I always use it.
A mixture of basil, parsley and white alcohol makes the best mosquito lotion.
Now as for vinegar I use it a lot in cleaning. It eliminates odors of eggs and fish so in my dishwasher I put a cup of it i the tray with the glasses. When mopping the floor I put grounded olive soap together with vinegar it kills germs.
Baking soda together with vinegar does miracles if you let it stay all night in your toilet seat.
Sorry for posting an ended one but it refreshes our mind and sometimes new things pop up.

Hey M Adamopoulou ,

Thanks for the Eco Friendly post.

I won't jump into the Cleaning supplies conversation, not my area

Eco friendly - not harmful to the environment. That's the definition. You said youare located on a hill and that you use herbs quite often? So what pesticides do you suggest for eco friendly use?

Have you not had a guest get an allergic reaction towards the herbal anit-mosquito lotion? (Very curious)

Thanks

No Leandri until now no guest has complained about herbs ?. They love them and they ask me where they can find some fresh ones. If you don’t like herbs burning coffee in a small plate will keep mosquitos for a long time. Have a wonderful weekend.

Joey how lucky you are leaving in such a historical house. It must be amassing. Don’t pay any attention to the few guests who might not appreciate it. I love wood and my ceiling is wood made so I can imagine how beautiful your house is.

I have to admit to being a little off the pace with eco-friendliness. The best we do is making sure all our recyclables go to the right places. Anything that can be re-used by us, is, until it becomes past it's usefulness and then it too finds the recycling process (e.g. plastic bags).

I also love wood but it is very much a liability here, as the termites love it too and are voracious!

Thanks for the reply M Adamopoulou , very interesting just as I knew it would be! Although I wouldn't burn coffee... such a waste :-P I'd rather drink it. hehe. (I'll try it at my house considering the mozzies are Everywhere).

I dug a bit deeper to see if I have anything to add to this conversation and found that at one of our properties we charge guests a Conservation fee per vehicle that they bring into the grounds! Apparently those funds are like an emergency fund for when a car accidentally damages some of the plants. How cool is that? And further more there are fines for littering on every property we own.

fluff ,

Very interesting share thanks. Our recycling services here is a bit of a shlep especially considering all of our properties are remotely located and difficult to get to.

Recycling Service. Unfortunately no recycling service near us. I try to gather mostly plastics and glasses and dispose it to recycling dumpsters 5 Kim away from my property.

I just tried that vinegar thing. I have intentionally made this towel not washed for a long time (ever since our last conversation on vinegar use).

Of course, that towel was not used for the guests. I tried to make picture of it, but my camera can't show those yellowish portions.

I used 1 cup of 9% vinegar as 2nd wash in washing machine. I morally prepared myself in case something goes wrong, I I am ready to loose my towel.

As I could see there is no effect. And no damage.
