Creating house rules
House rules help you feel more confident that guests will take care of your property during their stay. You can set your house rules on the Extranet – guests must read and agree to them to complete their booking.
In this article:
Standard house rules
Your house rules set expectations for guests and help them decide whether your property is a good fit before they book.
You can specify the following standard house rules:
-
Pets
-
Parties or events
-
Smoking
-
Quiet hours
-
Curfew
-
Check-in and check-out times
-
Children
-
Maximum number of guests
In addition, you can specify in the Extranet any policies regarding damage deposit, group reservations, and guest information.
Setting house rules on the Extranet
Depending on your property type, we have enabled certain options for you on the Extranet. You may be able to set house rules for your property in the Extranet following these steps:
- Log in to the Extranet
- Click Property, then Policies
- Under House rules, click Edit
- Specify which house rules your property accommodates
- Click Save
If you have more than one property, you may be able to set up the same house rules for all of them. Here’s how:
- Log in to the Extranet
- Specify whether your property accommodates smoking, parties or events, quiet hours, and pets
- Select the properties you’d like the policy to apply to by checking the box
- Click Check and confirm
- Click Apply change
If above options are not enabled for you, you can still specify your property policies following these steps:
- Log in to the Extranet
- Click Property, then Policies
- Under each option: Internet, parking and pets, Children policies, Extra bed & crib options, Guest information, click Edit
- Add all options which your property accommodates
- Click Save
It may be beneficial for you to consider setting up a damage policy. Setting up a damage policy secures you in case a guest causes damage to your property or items during their stay.

Additional rules to cover with your guests
Whether you’re meeting your guests in person or providing a welcome pack, here are additional house rules to mention to them:
Neighbors
If your apartment is in a quiet building or neighborhood and you’ve set “quiet hours” on the Extranet, remind your guests to keep the noise down. You can also mention that any fines resulting from noise complaints will be passed on to them.
Extra visitors
To avoid unpleasant situations, let your guests know if you don’t want any extra visitors.
Parking
If you don’t offer any parking, let guests know about other parking options close to the property and any costs involved.
Safety and security
It’s important to remind your guests to lock the doors and close the windows when they leave the property. If your property has an alarm system, provide clear instructions to your guests on how to turn it on and off. If you’re hosting guests in your home, make sure to put away any valuable items to be safe.
Food and waste
Make sure guests know about any recycling procedures and where to dispose of trash. Provide guests with instructions on how to use any kitchen appliances. If you’re only renting out a room in your home, clearly label your guests’ space in the fridge.
Shared areas and amenities
If your property has a shared garden, terrace, swimming pool, or other common area for guests, make sure they’re aware of any rules for having drinks, barbecues, or parties.
Emergency services
Provide your guests with contact info for the police, fire, and ambulance services. You should also provide guests with details for an alternative contact person in case you’re unavailable to answer any urgent questions during their stay.
