How long does it take to prepare for breakfast?

Takes me two and a half hours to prepare the dining room and kitchen to serve breakfast,  just so I can  serve a breakfast, complete, within 12 minutes from a guest arrival...How do others set for breakfast?

For large groups we set up breakfast in the games/family room. Generally though we usually take breakfast to the guests rooms on a tray. It's quick and easy as long as you confirm the time it will be ready they really appreciate relaxing in their own space (sometimes still in their PJ'S)!

We cooperate with the neighbouring hotel because they have an excellent buffet breakfast.

We purchase vouchers for breakfasts, our guests pay over the terminal on arrival, and our guests deliver the vouchers in the hotel breakfast restaurant.

We make no profit /no loss on these vouchers and look upon it as a good service.

Thank you , love your idea of serving breakfast in the bedroom, not something I have explored.. I can see many advantages for both you and the guest

Small groups, half an hour. Large groups about 90 minutes with 2 doing the work.

I cook all my Guests breakfasts before they come down to the Dining Room, and it normally takes me just over an hour to cook the breakfast and prepare their starter which could be Melon, Grapefruit, Cereals or Porridge. Then their maincourse which could be Full English Breakfast or Eggs Royale etc or Kippers etc etc. And our Guests always speak very highly of our Breakfast, which is very important

Hi Coolspratt, Do you collect breakfast orders at night? I suspect you work in a similar way to myself, I will take your idea of the grapefruit as a starter, do you grill it or serve it cut and fresh?

Hi Tracey Collier, you sound very organised, we are a small BnB based on a farm, I would have nightmares preparing for large groups unless it was the breakfast was served as a buffet.

Hi Post, aren't there competitive issues sending your guests to a nearby hotel?

Thanks for your replies and insights, really illuminating. Breakfast is a key service for us and the best time to get to know the guests and make an impression.

I always ask our Guest for their breakfast order the evening before. Fresh red grapefruits I segment then but still serve them in the original skin. A big thing about our English Breakfast is our bacon. I get this from a local Butcher, Guests love it, and I use Smoked Bacon and get the lady to cut it on number 11, so it is nice and thick. So when I fry the bacon it doesnt all shrivell up and retains its moisture.

Hi Hugh. Our maximum capacity is 16 so our large groups are not that big.

For anything over 8 we do buffet. Our standard menu is muesli/granola and yoghurt with fruit, then bacon eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, eggs with occasional extras like tomato, and aubergine. Add to this two types of bread, either plain or toast, with a selection of jams, venison sausages and tea/coffee/ fruit juice.

Several years ago we stopped room service for breakfasts. We now offer complimentary breakfast, self .served in our dining room open 7.30am open - 9.00am close. Hot breakfast is available in the same location during the same hours if ordered & paid for the night before. Complimentary breakfast includes 5 different cerals, 3 juices, 7 toast toppings, coffee, tea, ice water. Easily prepared the evening before and longest time for set up in the morning is the chain toaster heating up. All the mess is in one place.

Quite a few hours, of which the guests are unaware of....as they sit down and their fresh bread is served from the oven to the table, served with home made butter, made that morning. In addition to preserves made from local produce...and home made cheeses and yoghurts.

Followed by a traditional warm English breakfast and brewed coffee the traditional South African way.

To serve breakfast ask the guest before they sleep for tomorrows breakfast time.wake up 1 hour before to cook the rice first (asian breakfast)while you are cooking start to fried the egg first folloqed by hotdog, ham qhile you are waiting for the rice and watwr to boil.after you cook the maincoursestart to prepare it into the plate individually.if you have large group of 10 better use your chafing dishes to put the food and lwt them serve themselves and remind the guests that is gor party of ten breakfast so that they only get what is for them only

I have 2 Self Contained Studio type rooms so they eat in their rooms and prepare their own breakfast at their leisure or a time which suits their travels/trips for the day. ( these 2 rooms have the same foods put in their fridges as the other rooms). The other rooms eat a Self Serve Breakfast on the Balcony at a time which suits them. I lay the Cereals out on the table, make a fruit salad and place it at the top of the fridge with the yoghurts, bread etc and the jams, eggs and milk are in the door. I leave hot soapy water in the sink to rinse their dishes and put in the dishwasher or I do it if I am still at home when they finish eating. Some people take their time and eat everything in site and you wonder where the hell they put it all but then others eat and run.

We are currently in a soft opening period and are only serving a continental breakfast buffet that only takes around 20 minutes at the most to prepare. we will serve a hot breakfast to our guests room after our grand opening but most feedback from guest is that they prefer a breakfast that they don't have to wait for.

To complete Breakfast take two hours for me, I finnish the table before I go to bed, in morning I prepare Breakfast Continentale.

My Breakfast is big, with homemade Bread and Croissant (French)
