Christmas Eve vs New Year’s Eve!!!

Christmas Eve vs New Year’s Eve!!!

Which is better?

Xmas Eve, the night before Christmas. The excitement, the whole build up to see the excitement on the children’s faces, the smell of Christmas dinners  in the air,  laying down on the sofa with the family, watching Christmas movies, the great company of family and friends.

I love Christmas Eve! Excited kids, carols,  kourambiedes and sherry!! Amazing fun with all the family.

New Year’s Eve because the countdown is so excited. Its  party time and to be thankful for the year so far and look forward to the next year. Its also the time for Santa Claus to visit Greek Homes and  bring presents to the children.

Oh! I love both, I cant decide can you???

Living in the Southern Hemispere means that Christmas is hot, and where I live it can get very hot. A couple of years ago we had 42C on Christmas day, accompanied by high humidity. So very energetic celebrations are out of the question, unless a swimming pool is somehow involved.

Hi! Tracey-Collier and thanks for the input.

I was always wondering how the Southern Hemisphere celebrates hot Christmas.... Swimming together with Santa Claus, what an experience.

Ho!ho!ho!

For me Christmas Eve all the way... I am cooking and baking all day (along with work, lol) for Christmas Day dinner with the entire family. Love to cook and bake. Cannot wait to see our 5 sons with their wife/girlfriends and our Grandchildren with the excitement on the kids faces, you know Santa stops here as well. Just love Christmas time !! Although for us here in the US we are in the Northeast, very cold and I only look forward to snow on Christmas Eve only..

New Years Eve.. most years since we've had our children we would just stay home and celebrate with them. Now they are older we have gone out to dinner and dancing with friends. This year going to host a New Years Eve party right here with my staff.

k2u Great, you are a master chef as I understand. Did you try to bake kourambiedes? I am not so crazy about cooking, too much to wash afterwards. I love though having relatives and friends so cooking and baking is already started. In additional to Christmas my grandaughter has her birthday on the 13th and I am preparing all kind of great bite sized sandwiches by using cookie cutters, finger food, apetizers, etc. Kids love playful shapes, so the mini sandwiches so I cannot disappoint them.

So I also cook all day but no work. I have plenty of time so I dont mind.

I was fortunate when my children were small. I had my mom and mother-in law looking after them so on New Years Eve we were always celebrating and dancing to fancy clubs and restaurants.(after 12 o clock). Now my children and grandaughter come over to my country home on Christmas and New Year. and celebrate altogether with friends. Its beautiful when the whole family is together. I am looking forward with excitement.... I can imagine your home with 5 sons, wifes, girlfriends, grandchildren. Magic moments...Wish you good luck with your cooking..

Haven't baked the kourambiedes yet, have to go to the store to get the ingredients. I cannot wait to make them. I will post a photo when I do make them :) I have told some of my friends that I am making these this year, they cannot wait to try them.

Happy Birthday to your granddaughter ! That's a great idea using the cookie cutters for the sandwiches.

Holidays are a wonderful time to get together. A lot has happened with the family this year.. wonderful things actually. So much to celebrate on New Years Eve.

Have a wonderful night (day) ! Closing for the night.

For me the preference has shifted with age. When younger and during raising my children x-mas eve was definitely the more atmospheric and had more anticipation for many reasons.

Since then NYE has had more significance due to kids being grown 'n' flown and living in an essentially non-christian country.

fluff children grow and fly away so fast!!!. It comes a time though that most of them come back to nest again in our homes even for a little time . We love them and wherever they are wish them to be happy.

Many things get shifted as the years pass by.

Happy holidays to all!!!

Thanks Michael wish you all the best and hope raining stops. We have nice sunshine here 15 degrees. Sometimes we even have 20 degrees in Christmas. I remember many years ago when my family and I went for Christmas to Canada what huge difference in temperature we had. In Greece we had 21 degrees and when we landed in Canada we had -21 degrees. It was late in the night and the scenery was spectacular.

So many differences around our amazing world!!!
