Our self catering option is most popular with families . We offer full use of the main kitchen with stove, oven microwave and fridge - even the washing machine is available for guest utilization.  We also offer to book activities before guests with families arrive.

Hi, I have to smile a bit on the question whether I made my property kid-proofed...
First my property is made available to all kinds of guests not only to families with kids. But I can make it secure and I can add facilities, like a highchair, a baby bed or special mattress for children when they can not sleep together in the designated
    beds...
My property is not particularly designed for children, so I expect that parents take care about their children.
All is there to keep a family happy and to make their stay as nice and convenient as possible.

The establishment is right on the beach. There are buckets, spades, beach umbrellas, beach chairs for the use of our guests. There are also boogie boards for the teenagers. There are also 3 children plastic scooters for the little ones to use when their parents stroll on the beach. No charge.

DSTV with 4 channels for children ( e.g. Disney.) when the weather does not play along!

The apartment has a fully fitted kitchen for easy self catering .. The dishwasher also makes life a little easier for the lady of the house.

    Beach House on Fairway

At Beach House on Fairway, our self-catering house is both child-friendly and we allow pets to come along as well. We obviously have a pool (with safety net) which is a must for those hot summer days in Langebaan, however, by pure chance the pool was not built too deep, which allows smaller children to enjoy it as well. We also have a trampoline (with the safety sides) for the younger kids to enjoy. We do have to replace the trampoline every now and again, but I think it's really worth it. Staying on the outside, we also have a jungle gym which my wife and I built with our own hands. Inside the house, we have a pool table, and tv's in all the rooms with DSTV family channels finish off our family friendly house. We also have two mountain bikes which guests can use free of charge.

Our Guest House is not minamalistic,  each room is decorated and furnished to a very high standard  and homely feel to it,  also each room has a particular theme  to it,  like the Victorian Room and the Safari Room.  We are Five Stars and Gold Award,  so again Customers know we have high standards.

Our Guests feel at home here and as a result our repeat business is very good.  Having been in the Hotel & Catering business all our lives,  my Wife and I really enjoy our Customers.

Family Friendly, I welcome families with childrens from 6 years old onwards. If I can help it I stop having toddlers still with nappies because in my experience some parents put their baby's soiled nappies everywhere, bathroom bins, kitchen bins and it does smell.

Having said that I still have those odd parents so I strictly mentioned that nappies must be well wrap!!!!

Thanks for that question. Booking doesn't actually care about "family oriented" places. When we are marked as "Family place" by Airbnb. So, people can use filter to find family oriented place. In that respect Booking is really bad.

We also get so warm messages from our guests saying that we are the best when it comes to accommodating children and infants.

We are just lucky to be in Philippines, where children are the joy of life, and everyone around you treat them with ultimate attention. We also have kids playground and kids swimming pool.

And yes, we love kids (that goes without saying in Philippines). The whole country loves kids!

We just have some simple amenities such as board games, kids books and will be putting a couple bean bags in some of the rooms so the kids can watch tablets etc away from parents.

Just having our guest house with direct access to a safe swimming beach in KZN South Africa make us family friendly as most of our guests are " the bucket and spade brigade." They like nothing better than spending the day on the beach and their rooms are close enough to pop back for a snack, drink or toilet, and yes - I provide the buckets and spades !!

Our guests stay with us, and that includes our children. We have loads of toys/books for little ones. I love children, and love playing little games with them, regardless of languages you will always find a way to communicate with little guests.

I list shops where parents can rent cot, pram etc which I think is a great idea

My children hated club camps, it was our stick for good behavior, if you don't stop killing each other, we will send you to the kids club. My nieces/nephews love kids club, but not mine

Barbed wire, electric fences and the crocodile pit!

Seriously though, as already said, good internet has most kids covered. We do our best to be friendly in an uncle/aunt kind of way but otherwise make no special provision, usually.

    "dinosaur slider" Wow, how cute!

When my son was just 7 years old, we went to Shangri-la hotel in Cebu. (We also went to Shangri-la in Kota Kinabalu, but they don't have any sliders). They had a great slider, just a regular one :) and this slider is our big memory. So many years passed, and I still remember this vacation just because of that slider!

Imagine, to have a slider that looks like dinosaur :) Kids love it and its nice to take pictures. This is just amazing amenity for the kids

"regardless of languages you will always find a way to communicate with little guests."

Sometimes they say that love doesn't need any language. And I would say it's love for kids :)

When the family arrives, I give  the little big boys the password of the internet.  When you make the little ones happy it goes as well for the parents.

First, be sure you want kids at your place.  If so, politely let the guests know that there are other guests and you/they need peace and quiet.  We take kids at any age and there have been no major problems.  Also, it makes parents, especially new parents, happy you pay attention to the kids.  We put a swing in a tree near the B&B and encourage the young ones to go outside to frolic.

Kids are the joy of life. A Greek saying says kids is the salt in our lives...
All kids are welcomed in our place. I have lots of toys inside and outside of the studio for kids to play since I have a 10 year old granddaughter and she’s always playing with boys and girls.
Also near us kids have fun with our neighbors small animals, such as goats, sheeps, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, ducks, geese, rabbits, turtles, horses etc..
Even though I have kids speaking different languages one of our little guest taught my granddaughter how to better communicate with my dog since she was an assistant dog trainer and they had great time together.

I like families coming to any of my Apartment but NO  NO  NO to giving them Crayons or any colouring materials.  You have to be aware in case they draw as well to the walls while parents are not watching. But I provide them educational matter like lego and word power alphabets and numbers.

I think I know why we became a Family place. Thats because of King size bed. No one in our area has such big bed :)

    Hi everyone,

    What an awesome topic!

I see a lot of people do massive amounts of effort, such as building the playground etc. Very very cool!

All of our properties have the normal kiddies entertainment stuff, such as the games room, trampolines, entertainment programmes. And for Mom, most of our properties offer Spa treatments. For Dad there are sports bars on the property, and most of these are normally close to one another.

Speaking about beds...The one thing I'm struggling with is the families who bring an Extra Child which puts them over the max occupancy. We can't make a provision for that as our insurance won't cover damages if there was more than the max amount of people in the unit. Even if I add a Baby cot etc, it still won't be allowed.

Keep up the good vibes guys!

Maybe you should ask yourself if you prefer adult guests to young families?

We get our share of young couples with small children and babies - we provide a cot for free and as we have self catering facilities we are well received by young couples who need to heat up baby formula in the microwave and appreciate fridge space to keep their food (and baby food)

However we personally prefer adult guests - less baby cries annoying other guests and pram tyre tracks down our freshly mopped corridors. Bah humbug! :-)

The main thing is none of our guests with children ever leave feeling not welcome - but we would not go out of our way to attract them.

Well I only have one big Studio and both adults and children are welcomed. I don’t mind if babies cry because I’m a grandmother and I love kids. Sometimes adults can make more noise than small cute kids.

"Sometimes adults can make more noise than small cute kids."

You are so funny. I can't stop laughing.

I honestly think, it really depends on personality of the owner. Really, if you are the owner, you set the rules!

Please, be reminded of some experience that Eugenia shared. Crayons are no no. And it just crossed my mind... What will you do with a baby wee wee in the bed? Mattresses are so expensive. It didn't happen to us yet, but who knows? It might come one day. That's why I am here in the forum to listen to advice from more experienced hosts.

    Hey Akwador ,

I wish I had the "power" to influence the target audience of the property but sadly I must yield to the higher powers. etc. Bah humbug indeed! Good suggestion though thanks!

M Adamopoulou , ain't that the truth! Well put. Adults who party-too-hard can make just as big a mess as children .. if not worse.

Katerinka12 , very good point. I would also like to know how experienced hosts handle this.

Have a lovely long weekend all!

Katerinka12 so far so good.As you said personality counts. All of my guests kids have behaved. I always leave a drawing board and at the end of the day they draw something nice and leave a thanking message to me. I love that it’s so cute. I have to remind you that I am down stairs so maybe they respect the house more.
