Guest cancel booking last minute

I was being cancelled several times last minutes by the guest. I already indicated that I will charge a full amount if cancellation 7 days before check in. But my payment method is pay at property which is I collect cash with them. Last minute cancellation guests refused to pay me any cancellation fees after they canceled it one day before check in. This has brought me a lot of problem! They blocked my calendar for few months and the canceled it like 1 day before check in. I would probably not getting any replacement booking in a short term! Anyway, I saw some post that indicated that we could charge them deposit on their credit card? Could anyone please advise me what is the way to do so? And what is to way to secure ourself from last minute cancelation. I did contact help centre for several time. Their respond was like they can't do anything. We as a owner we have to collect the cancelation charge by ourself and they won't do anything to help on host. I am really pissed with booking.com!

- The esiest way would be to activate Booking.com payments. You will be paid for all future bookings, late cancelations, no-shows etc.
- second option is that you have a POS TERMINAL, so that you can charge/preathorize credit cards based on your propertiy policy.

P.S. don't be pissed it's not worth it.

Always make sure you have a valid credit card! I advise getting a POS terminal as pibomarco suggests, and process your payments/deposits in advance. A happy side effect of all this, is that people are far less likely to cancel if you've already charged their credit card.

Hi Jkangarloo, thanks for your suggestions. But I am only doing small business which I only have two units. To have a POS terminal might be not worth it?

Lamaisonipoh, just send a mesasge via extranet inbox -> Booking.com messages -> compose a new message -> Finance or Account

And mention that you would like to activate Booking.com payments. So the guest pays to booking.com and booking.com will send you money once a month. You will be covered with late cancelations, no-shows etc... Also less work for you basicly.

For a POS terminal we need a registered business bank account. (Slovenia EU)
Prices for terminal are aprox 10 - 20€ per month + transaction fees from 1% - 2,5%.

I find the easiest way to collect payment (upfront) as a small business operator is by using "PayPal Here". Its easy. You can handle payments on the go and if anybody wishes to cancel within your "7 day no cancellation period" then you have their credit card details already. At this point its entirely up to you if you wish to offer any refund? Case by case I say.... Of course you would had already charged them the full amount 7 days prior to there arrival date as well. This then makes it less likely for any cancellations. Too easy!
