    I always make sure that I am well mapped on Google Maps because most guests type in the address in there at first. If that is all good, I would consider sending an automated email to all guests that just made the booking containing detailed directions to the property. These directions should be rich in design and have photos and pictures in order to make it easier for guests to understand. This is only my opinion and before we were available on Google Maps this is how we directed them to our property. It worked perfectly! :)
    Now, when we are available on Google Maps, this is mostly redundant.

    We had bad reviews for the "Location" because people just didn't get where it was and never bothered reading the description or look at the map.

    So what we did was to put the directions ie. map right as a photo in the rolling album.     This has worked wonders for us, as it is very visible, they always see it and since then, the bad location reviews dropped drastically and everyone is happy. I get more of the guests who love to be away from the noise and bustle of a city center.

    Hi Leandri, my property is based in the heart of the medina of Marrakech, so an online map that correctly details the labyrinth of the souks is very difficult to find.

    I also want to provide my guests with the simplest route to get to the property to avoid them getting lost, so I took it upon myself to design a simple street map which I provide to guests when communicating with them. Based on guest feedback, it really has been useful to them.

    Annoyingly Google Maps also doesn't display our street, so does anyone know how I can get Google Maps to update?

    @ Thuild - I do like the idea of having the map as a photo in the rolling album and may look to do this too.

    Great Idea Thuild! I'm adding it before the end of today, because at least then the potencial guests can see exactly where the property is located. 

    Veronika Group, I appreciate your reply. I checked and we are definitely on Google Maps, it's actually ridiculous how fast Google Maps picks up the name of the property when you start typing it in! Gives me hope. 

    Asad, thanks for adding your thoughts. For properties like yours, it would be Ideal if we could add our own Start Point to the directions. We can go through the effort of sending maps etc, but if you take a look at most of the posts on the forum you'll notice there are a lot that go about Guests not receiving or responding to our correspondence. So how else will we be able to ensure that the guests know where they're going?

    I'm grateful for all the responses! Adding a Start point will still be such a great tool though.

    Asad, you can always try searching your street in Google Maps on the web and, when you do not receive any results, there should be a button to ‘Add missing information’ somwhere in the sidebar. Keep in mind that Google takes forever to respond and process your request and eventually put it online so I would suggest sending the request as soon as possible.

    It took me maybe 6 months to list my street and I needed to send the same request probably 3-4 times.

    Leandri - Yes i totally agree. We should still have the ability to include our own starting point for directions. Having a starting point from just the airport is not helpful, especially if guests are not arriving from there.

    Veronica Group - Thanks for the tip about updating Google Maps. I'll get on it asap!! ;-)

    I agree with the lady who posted this. By far the majority of our customers would arrive by car, either from within mainland Europe or by using a ferry from UK. I do not see how to give then instructions other than 'Use your GPS!' which is less than friendly IMHO

    Totally totally agree just joined and we are in rural France,most would join us by road so road directions are a must.

    Totally agree with all the comments and issues above.  I do feel that it would not take much for Booking.com to add another tab to enable property owners to create their own directions - particularly by car which is how most guests tend to arrive (in Devon, anyway).  The country lanes are very narrow and daunting for most people and SatNav insists of directing them down the back lanes which can be extremely narrow rather than along main roads and one country lane.

    Guests sometimes arrive either annoyed it has been so complicated or nervous - hence the sometimes negative comments made about Location.  In reality, it is very simple to get here.  Will try to add a Google map link but it is so much simpler if Booking.com expand Directions beyond that from an airport!!  Fingers crossed.
