Here is the one piece of furniture everyone wants to take home. We love it, and most importantly our guests love it!! they even sleep on it all night. It is super comfy, large enough for 2 people, and the view from that sofa is breathtaking. Hope you can come and try it for yourself!! ;)
Thanks for sharing Ana Gerardino,
It really looks comfy and with lots of character.
Lovely cushion covers as well :)
This is my favorite room in our buens lugar hotel. Bed made from completely recycled super medium African logs!. Those comfortable single seats were coated with pyperus reeds. A good piece of art is supposed to be obtained from simple debris of elements available. Ana Gernardino i just admired your double piece of furniture. Ilaria your those two framed pieces of art work are just simple yet they are speaking loud when mounted on that wall!
I agree Kibokoafrica, they are simple and perfect for that space.
That bed made with African logs looks incredible and I bet it's also quite comfortable!
Thanks for sharing your picture with us.
I love Ana's sofa outside because it looks "snug". And Kiboko's bed is amazing because it is totally hand made., I love that! It is a unique piece that no one else has. The warm orange/red colour on the wall make it very tropical and fun.
Well done!
I will have a look tomorrow and see what I can photograph in the unit. It will be hard to choose since there are so many things I like. But will go for one only.
more later,
Greetings
Aaltje B.
Ilaria, thank you for this interesting post... Less is more...your old fashioned wall and decoration is very welcoming...
Ana, I can imagine how fantastic your sofa is. Your light purple pillows and cover are so wonderful.....and match so nicely with the dark colored wood sofa. I would certainly love to come and try it myself admiring your breathtaking view...
-Kibokoafrica, your bed from recycled African logs is very exceptional. Your room looks very warm and cozy.
Why dont you also make a small table from same wood??? Just an idea.... I love wood. My father was a carpenter. The aroma of wood excites me. My roof ceiling is made from wood.
Aaltje B., I just cant wait to see your spectacular pictures. Of you go and start shooting....
Blessings to all...
Thank you all for the compliments!! Everyone is welcome :)
Kibokoafrica, I love the African reclaimed wood bed!! it is so unique.
Aaltje B., can't wait to see your pics.
hugs,
Ana
Hahaha thank you Maria. You know the table must be very smooth in order to appear appealing. Aaltje we are waiting for your pics
Hahaaaaaa You are all so curious. Well, lets try.
I have chosen for the bed.
My husband Guy made it, and it is as simple as can be.(on purpose) The frame is from macrocarpa wood. Two beds attached, so easily make a twin when needed, or superking when put together. When two people sleep in there, they won't feel it is two separate mattresses.
The mattress is NZ made / all natural. Also the bedding is all natural. I have stitched extra long flap at the bottom end so tall people can also sleep in it easily. Together it is 180 wide by 205 cm.
That is also what guests rave about the most. A good night sleep is what we have invested in the most.
Sheets I prefer in linen to sleep in between as described before. It's quite a different feel, but one doesn't toss and turn that often, hence a less disturbed sleep. But we also have white cotton. And organic white pillow covers, soooo soft :)
All the layers are for protection, softness, warmth (electric blanket for winter nights) and it keeps the mattress clean. The top layer is homespun and woven in Belarus. It is very wide 290 cm . I drape it so it looks relaxed.
I am proud because it keeps well. I bought the mattress four years ago and still looks and feels like new. The linen is also very strong. I tried to photograph that but didn't do the trick. Might try later again.
When a little ylang ylang and lavender is added in the room for that fragrance and the fireplace roaring when cold it's gonna be very cozy and don't hear any complaints the next day.
We are truly happy with the results of this bed and it draws people in. So, well done, Guy :)
PS Nothing beats white pillowcovers :)
About the layers:
Electric Blanket
Latex for added softness
Wool for warmth
Cotton for protection / then linen to lay on.
Linen to sleep between
Cover is also made of linen, with wool inner (lots of wool in NZ :)
Linen bedspread as described before, from Belarus.
Hahaha one day i admires to sleep in an electric blanket. Never been in one before
In a cold climate you may really appreciate to lay on an electrically heated blanket.
I have one of those that you can preset to say 75 min. only. And temperatures can be chosen too. So you don't have to feel like being cooked all the time :)
In our case, to be honest, having the linen and all the other layers, one doesn't really need it.
But older people love it, and those who are not used to colder temperatures do.
NZ is quite nice during the day, often midday it looks like summer, even in winter, but then after 4 PM it cools down big time , like 20 degrees or more, and that's where the layers and sometimes the electric blanket are needed.
Welcome to New Zealand, Kaka Point / Nugget Point, Anyone?
Hi! Aaltje-B- your bed looks so comfortable and cosy. Guy has done a great job. You must be very proud of him.
Excellent job my girl and with all that linen...wow....you make your guests feel pampered.
I am so far away from you my dearI but I can dream sleeping...and relaxing...and having fun .... and you baking that delicious apple pie!!!!
Thanks my sweetie for all the small details that make the difference....
Wish you pleasant moments...
Thank you, Maria, it is a real treat, that bed.
We love things homemade.
The unit was part of the garage before, the wind blowing through it since so deteriorated.
So decided to completely renovate, insulate and put the fireplace in. It is compact, functional and easy to clean.
Did you know that many people in NZ simply had woollen carpet on the floor? Now slowly the trend of laminated floors is coming this way. But I find that too noisy and cold on the feet.
So we have wooden floors now. With a plywood kitchen. Very hip. But that's another story :)
Have a great weekend Maria.
ps How is your new dog doing?
Greetings,
Aaltje B.
Aaltje B. I know you have best wool quality. I remember you mentioning when you joined the forum that you and your husband have renovated an old garage. So much work but it’s worth it. You are proud and your guests have unforgettable holidays.
My Banana is incredible. Loves to play all the time. She’s very friendly with everyone and likes petting her. Kids love to play with her and teach her to obey while playing. The perfect dog for us. Lovable dog...
Wish you a happy day...
Hi partners. I made this cabinet and goodies by hand as well as this mirror ... it's not much but guests always compliment me on it xxx I love it too lol
made from recycled materials
Moira wow!!! You are an artist. Your mirror and little things are incredible. Keep on the good work...
Happy posting....
Thank you M. You are very kind xxxx
Moira you mean you do those in house bottle antiques by yourself? then you are an artist youself
You guys are making me blush xxx Yes I paint build stuff and do arts and crafts xx It is my time of unwinding when I do it xxxx Thank you Kibokoafrica xx
Our cottage was originally the stables of a farmhouse - guests love the fact that we have tried to keep some of the old antique pieces with a few updates. In the kitchen we have a piece of metal sheet that has been cut out to display Rolo and a traveller. The garden also offers a few conversation starters with old wagon wheels and water pumps. One of our most favourite pieces has to be the picture above the main bedroom - many people comment they book simply because they fell in love with that picture!

Our bed is our most popular talked about piece of furniture, everyone says how comfortable it is, let’s face it, that is the most important thing to s good nights sleep
Please share picture with us if you don’t mind.
Yes it’s very important to get good night sleep...
I will, when room is empty, but I will tell you this, I got the bed online at one day. It arrived in boxes for me to put together, I thought I had been ripped off as how can a queen size mattress come in a very small box????
But once the bed was put together, I put this very small package on the base, then I slit the clear packaging and omg could not believe my eyes!!!!
It was amazing, and to be honest, I’m waiting for their next sale on beds!!!!! Cannot beat it, it is the bomb bed!!!!
It's incredible to witness how much passion and care you guys invest in your properties. Thank you so much for sharing so many pictures with us. Keep them coming.
