Yellow stars next to each property name

Please can someone explain to me what the little yellow stars are against the name of some properties.

exampleI own The George Guest House and i do not have any yellow stars.  I know the yellow thumbs up sign is part of the preferred partner but just wondered what the yellow stars were?

Dear Nic,

Are we really having this conversation?

Those are the star rating for each property, I think you heard of that before, 2 star, 4 star hotels, etc.

You can have that only if your property is rated officially by the government tourism office, for which you need to provide a certificate.

Cheers,

Wrong info. I know someone who put stars without any official.

How rude - are you really talking down to me like this in this conversation?

Obviously I didn't know what they were or I would not be asking. Unfortunately I wasn't born with this knowledge and as my second year building and running a guest house from scratch - so far I hadn't been told.

I'm quite sure there are things that you don't know. One thing I do know is that you should speak to people with respect and kindness. This sort of attitude can come across quite hurtful when typing to each other.

I'm with you Amanda. I didn't know how you get the stars either. My Grandmother always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all". Good policy, I think. Lesley

Sorry about that. I was having quite a rough day and that one got me a little dumbfounded.

Besides that I do provide you the necessary information.

I am myself running my guest house for over a year now, but as all business goes, you need to have a strong grasp about what you're doing and all it entails.

Dear Tina,
The procedure should work like this:
1. Hotel gets rating from government when they open for business.
2. Government should check after a few years if the hotel still meets requirements (doesn't really happen)
3. BDC registers hotel rating from government certificate
4. If the hotel is sold, the owner should get a new certificate (doesn't really happen as the certificate is registered to the company, not the person owning it)
5.BDC should then update the new certificate (will not happen if the 4th point doesn't happen

That's about it.

I think this is wrong if you get star rating with AA they check ever year

I have checked some of the hotels with stars in my Location, and I can personally tell that they dont have any star rating. Are you sure the yellow stars that display in the search results are meant for star hotels. If yes, then the algorithm is totally wrong in my opinion

Hi i have had a meeting with booking.com about this issue and was told that they could not do anything about the stars but as i have told them it is false information that they are giving to guests.

then i asked how can i get star rated on booking.com and they said i would have to send a certificate in

so why cant they do this with ever hotel-guest house or bb each year no certificate no stars.

TOO MUCH WORK

if you sell the business you lose the star rating and you must reapply.

i do not look a stars unless it is with the AA they check ever year.

thanks

michael
