Hi, is it possible to add an additional fee for pets when guests book on booking.com. I've looked on additional fee's & charges but there isn't a listing for pets?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi!-Lizachadderton and welcome to the forum.

In your Extranet Property tab go to Policies. Scroll all the way down to House Rules there you can find an option for pets that you can select and and set up your fees.

Hope I have been of help...

Hi Mr Adamopolou,

in the policies/housekeeping I can set pets "allowed" and "charges may apply". What I can't set is the fee itself to be added. Can you help us further where can we set a pet fee (eg. one off amount per booking? Than booking.com engine can automatically add it to the total amount at reservation so customers with pets could make reservations and payment themselves without asking pet fee in a message prior booking.

This message thread is from 3 years ago, but has this ever been resolved? I have the same issue in that I can select 'charges may apply' but nowhere to give the set fee per booking/pet that. Any conclusion or improvement to this issue?

Dear-Nfiser-Fiser unfortunately I never charged pets when my property was pet friendly. Maybe in the additional fees and charges you can add pet fees.

Maybe some other partner can help you with this.

Wish you luck.

I dont want to be rude, but that is not helpful M Adamopoulou, You say "there you can find an option for pets that you can select and and set up your fees." witch is wrong. You never done it yourself and giving faulty answers.

Hi Aurimas and welcome to the Partner Community.

Sorry If I was not helpful...I am a Partner as you are and I am just trying to help.

As I said before when my property was pet friendly in the beginning I didn’t charge extra.... After having an experience of having 7 dogs I changed my policies “to pet friendly upon request...and charges may apply...” that means guests send you a message and give you info about pets and you can inform them about further charges...

Unfortunately there is no feature to state your pet charges...

Best wishes.

It would be a good idea though.

We could request BdC team.

Yes of course we could request it...the more we send message requests through our Extranet inbox the more chances we have...so let’s start sending messages...

Cheers!!!

When you need to charge a pet fee and you send your guests messages stating this, how do you eventually charge the fee? Is it completely separate from booking.com? Do I need to collect this fee myself?

Thanks

We are charging it on spot when guest arrives at check-in. But it would be more convenient and straigthforward if pet fee would be added to the cost when booking is made and the total price would be shown to the customer…Like for tourist tax. Yes, this is a functional feature user story towards Booking.com developers.

But the fee for pets should be at least written somewhere to inform the guests in advance. Is there any such a place?
We hade pets allowed for free but sometimes it is quite exhausting to clean afterwards so I want to change it to a small fee for the pets.

Yes…although I also love dogs and have adopted two of them…unfortunately not all guests are responsible…they let their pets mischief meaning too much cleaning for us…

Wish you well…

This is a real issue as more guest want to bring pets, however the only way to charge for pets on booking.com and actually do what we pay  them for is to increase our base price to cover the additional cost of cleaning internal and externally, So those guest who do not have pets are dis advantaged are paying for something they do not need.

Why can other sites simply have a PET price? am I missing something??

@booking developers... I would really like to add a fee specific for PETS, and not have this an a general extra fee, applied as well for NON-pet bringers. How does this work? Thanks, best Annet

I find it also very strange that host can't set a fee for pets on booking platform. For example airbnb has this option. I wish the developers will change that in future.

Hi !

I agree with you…but unfortunately BDC sometimes is very slow in making such changes…

Have a nice day.

Agreed. that it is not possible to setup a fee for pets is a pitty and causes extra work.

Yes, this is bad because it makes people feel uncomfortable when they do not know how much it costs and it is not good to start the accommodation experience with such feeling. Small fee may create a bad atmosphere when it is not clear in advance.

Hello partners!
We also need this option to charge inside booking a small fee for having pets.
Booking developers please have a look at this request, it would help a lot of users and guests!

I fully agree, this causes so many issues because we can't add a fee, or even find out how many pets are coming. Not only are the charges an issue but we need to know if dogs are coming to know if to leave our food/water bowls and dog treats. I can add charges for towels, wood, cleaning, environment.......but not pets.

I have just got off the phone to them (UK 02033202635) and the booking. com assistant confirmed there is no way of the customer can add the charge to the bookinga but we added the text charges to the fine print of £20 per dog per stay up to 2 dogs.

This is a lot more cleaning to get the dog hair etc off of furniture and most guests understand. The problem is they're aware of extra charges but dont get in touch directly to tell you an animal is coming. This is a problem booking cleaners and the extra time if i dont know about it. Plus booking.com have made it clear that the guests will have to send you a direct bank transfer or cash (at the property) regarding this which is not practical for many property owners.

We must request this change to the syrstem through Inbox messaging. Only if the demand is high enough will they do something about it. I have xero idea why this hasnt been don already.

Just had this response... Shame theyre not as sophisticated as other platforms

Dear partner,

Thank you for contacting Booking.com Partner Support Team.

We would like to apologize for any possible inconvenience this situation may have caused.

Please be informed that it is not possible for this feature to be added as its not in our system. However, we can advise you to create a template message that guest will receive when they make a reservation, so they can be informed about the charges that may apply in case they have pets as well as to ask them to tell in advance if they have pets.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to assist you.

Best regards,

That's an absurd answer. Almost everything is possible to be added. I've been working in software industry, also developing online platforms and this is an extremely easy and feasible feature. It is very clumsy both to think in this static way and to answer for the hosts something like this. ;)

LET ME BE VERY CLEAR HERE. I WILL NOT LIST MY VERY POPULAR CASITA ON BOOKING.COM UNLESS AND UNTIL ITS IT BOFFINS DEIGN TO HELP US PEASANTS AND ALLOW A PET CHARGE. BTW, I LIST A PET CHARGE WITH VRBO.COM AND AIRBNB.COM. PERHAPS BOOKING.COM HAS HEARD OF THESE TWO SITES?

GET MOVING ON THIS REQUEST, AS YOU'VE LOST MY BUSINESS UNTIL YOU DO.

This doesn't work. It doesn't give me an option to set a rate for pets.

This is absolutely useless from BDC.

I've just changed policy to "pets allowed upon request". Hopefully then guests will contact me first and I can request a direct payment.

a
1
Annelie Graham 11 months ago

Yes, Stephen Womack, that's what I do. My listing says pets welcome and the first message after the guest has booked includes a sentence that says to let me know if they are bringing a pet and the one off fee I charge for that. I guess they then pay me cash on arrival - which is not exactly ideal but it's the best method so far.

Guys, I see I raised this business need since 3 years and still not added by BDC! Come on, we have travellers more often interested regarding pets than dozen more sustainability feature description.... So PRODUCT OWNERS here is Pet fee user story #1, cloned from baby cot:

GIVEN that a traveller is travelling with pet(s)

AND the host selected pet fee in the policy AND entered the amount, currency

THAN pet fee is displayed to the traveller as a one off fee

THAN upon reservation traveller can click on "I'm travelling with pet" option

THAN displayed reservation price will include the pet fee

AND the pet fee will be charged together with room price at the same time and same way

AND the host will be informed in the reservation about the fact that traveller is coming with pet

Hi,

Unfortunately, BDC doesn't support this function.

Hope BDC finds a solution for us and our sweet pets.

Wish you a good day.

I have two houses within the same property ( land ).

One of them we accept pets and we set it as " yes but requires confirmation ".

On the other house we dont allow pets. And there is no way for us to make that distinction available to the booking guest.

On top of that guest that select no refunding bookings, are subjected to our confirmation and fee . no matter what it is , even if they choose the house that we dont take pets.

I dont understant why is this such a poor developing feature ,when its comun and requires from guest more and more these days.

I’ve the same issue in my property with different rooms. Since I’m myself allergic to fur animals I can only allow pets in a room which is outside the main building.

Hello all,

I am relatively new to the Booking site. And I also have the problem of not being able to add a fee for pets. My 10 year experience with Airbnb is better and they have a more user-friendly site. Booking is more a site for Hotels it seems. They speak of available rooms where I offer a complete house with 3 bedrooms. But no possibility to add special fees.

One answer was that when there is a request for a reservation including a dog, you can answer and add the information about the fee for dogs. But an information request can only be accepted or declined as far as I know. So if the potential guest has a question, I cannot answer. What can I do?

I can tell you from experience, guests very rarely get in touch to say they have pets. I suspect they just forget or miss the 'Pets are allowed on request' wording. Very easily done.

It makes it very difficult and awkward to ask guests for a pet fee once they have arrived.

This can all be easily rectified if BDC simply add a pet fee option during the booking process.  It's a glaring omission for a website that specialises in bookings! 😂🤦‍♂️

Awkward situation indeed.

Some years ago I had guests that brought 7 dogs without asking me.

Due to this I decided to stop being pet friendly!!!

All of the other OTA listing sites allow pet fees to be added. I am surprised and disappointed the BDC do not have this feature. It is causing us a lot of extra work to invoice separately for small pet charges - and they are missing out on more commission, of course! Pet charges are essential to help with additional cleaning costs.

Perhaps earning more income may be speaking the right language to BDC? You are missing out on ££'s. Let's hope they do this development soon!

No way to reach BDC about pets.

Unresponsive.

As a Superhost on AirBNB, I get immediate responses.
