Tsiknopempti 2019

Hi! fellow partners...

Time to fire up that BBQ, as today is Tsiknopempti for 2019.

This is the special day of the year where a large amount of grilled meat is traditionally consumed by Greek people around the world, just before the arrival of Lent, marking the lead up to Easter and also the official start of Apokries (carnival season).

Traditionally today everyone prepares and enjoys their favorite meat dishes and typically a cloud of smoke is everywhere....

So Souvlaki is todays only menu.....

Greeks reserve a table ahead of time as restaurants and traditional taverns are typically fully booked.

Tsiknopempti means: Thursday is Pempti, meaning the fifth day of the week as Greeks count Sunday as the first day. The word tsikna  refers to the smell of cooked meat.

Greek communities around the world celebrate Tsiknopempti....

So if you see smoke in the air its from those crazy Greeks!!!!!

Interesting Maria!

Is this for everyone? Looks like it is.

We are preparing for Lent and Easter only in churches.

Have a great night sleep,

Greetings,

Aaltje B.

Aaltje B.Yes it’s for everybody. All Greeks are awaiting for this Thursday to eat meat, drink, dance and celebrate as much as they can even though next day is working day. I am sure Michael knows about this tradition since there is a big community of Greeks in Australia.
This is in addition to our Church commitments...
Sweet dreams...
Maria
