Hi there,

As far as I know Trivago is just a platform where you can load availability, just like Booking.com.

Perhaps some of the partners will know better but I couldn't find a connection.

Why do you ask though?

Trivago is first and foremost a comparison site, using links to your OTAs for customers to follow.

They have a very poor reputation, deservedly so (google it), and have more recently started their own listings.

IMHO they are a major PITA, always listing incorrect data and taking an extremely long time to action changes that have been requested, if at all. When I was asked to list directly I gave them short shrift.

My experience with them is summarised by an endless list of Anglo-Saxon expletives.

All I want is for my REVIEWS on Booking.com to APPEAR on Tripadvisor and Trivago, the way the ones from Expedia and Hotels.com do.  But Both organisations blame Booking.com and when I call Booking.com, they blame Tripadvisor and Trivago!

I don't want to link my CALENDARS, I just want a full spread of my REVIEWS from all my OBAs to show!

Booking.com have told me they made a mistake with the URLs.  Of both Tripadvisor AND Trivago?  Is that even possible?  They've also told me they've put them right - several times over the past 5 years.  But it never makes any difference.

The impression I get when I call Booking.com is that their personnel don't have the faintest idea what they are talking about.  Halfway through a conversation about linking reviews, they will start talking about linking calendars, and I have to direct them back onto subject.

Does anybody have the same problem and know how to fix it???

Hi Skyline,

I have been dealing with the same issue with Trivago.  For over a month now we have tried to get them to update incorrect address info, show photos of our apartments (only one was shown on our listing plus an AGODA picture of a PET-FRIENDLY PROPERTY).

As Trivago on their website explains their Trivago Rating Index as follows:

"The tRI is a comprehensive and reliable index of hotel ratings. The tRI takes available rating sources from across the web and uses an algorithm to aggregate them, providing a dependable and impartial score. "

They furthermore state the following:

"How does trivago determine its guest ratings?

We scan many available guest review and rating sources across the web on a daily basis. We aggregate these reviews and ratings, and convert them using our Rating Index® that ranges from 0 to 10 (10 is the highest possible rating). You can find more details in relation to accommodation-specific ratings by clicking on the accommodation’s guest rating score."

As our listing was showing no reviews, I asked them to please add our 217 Booking.com reviews, 50 Google Reviews, Tripadvisor reviews, etc.  I was told by their customer support that they were not able to PULL reviews from booking.com!!  Well, then all the properties that do have their booking.com reviews must have had them PUSHED to Trivago, if my dear customer support person at Trivago was to be believed...

Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I contacted booking.com to see if information was not being PUSHED (ie, pictures, descriptions, reviews, etc.).  I was told my request was sent to the proper department and I am still awaiting a reply.

On booking.com's Partner Hub it states the following:

Why is my property visible on other websites?

When you join Booking.com, you’ll benefit from extensive advertising on search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. You might also appear on one —or more—of our 17,500+ affiliate partner websites, including TripAdvisor, Agoda, Kayak, and Trivago.

We actively market your property online to make sure it’s visible to a global audience, exposing you to the highest possible number of potential guests. This is a service we provide to you at no added cost, even for affiliate websites that would normally charge subscription fees or a share of revenue to list a property.

How do I report errors or outdated info on an affiliate website?

Unfortunately, we have no control over the content that appears on affiliate websites*. If you spot incorrect info about your property on an affiliate partner’s site, it’s best to get in touch with that website directly in order to update it.

One of the most common issues is incorrect info on Google Hotel Ads. This can be easily fixed by setting up a Google My Business account, or updating your property details if you already have such an account. You’ll then need to clear your internet cookies and cache and wait for up to 48 hours for any changes to show.

*Exception: If you see incorrect info on the Agoda or Priceline websites, you can contact us directly.

Can I remove my property from an affiliate website?

It’s not currently possible to opt out of this service. According to the General Delivery Terms (GDTs) you agreed to and signed when joining Booking.com, you allow us to advertise your property on third-party websites in order to drive traffic and generate as much business as possible to your property page on Booking.com.

So the real question comes down to A:  Is booking.com pushing the same information to Trivago for all of its listings or B:  Is Trivago selectively showing on the listings what Trivago wants to show.

Personally, I do not think that booking.com is PUSHING out this informaiton incorrectly and that TRIVAGO is the one who is manipulating what is seen on the listings from their side.

The response I received from customer support at Trivago regarding the reviews goes against what they actually publish.

I agree with FLUFF's account... MAJOR ANGLO-SAXON EXPLICATIVES explains my dealing with Trivago perfectly!

My suggestion is to copy and paste the Trivago statements regarding their Trivago rating index and their statement on how trivago determine its guest ratings and then show them where they can aggregate your reviews.

Maybe we may both have some success!
