What's in a badge?

I'm fairly new to this forum, but I like it.  I've picked up a couple of good ideas and employed them, with, I think, some success.  However, I don't know what the deal is with the "badges".  Is this just an ego thing or is there some kind of perk that comes along with being an active participant?

Hey Weigelt ,

I'm super glad to hear you are also gaining valuable knowledge from the forum.

The Badges are actually just to show other people how Active you are in the forum. You technically gain nothing through it. But if you reply to a post with many badges, newcomers will recognize you as someone who has the experience.

I think that's what it's for...

Leandri not all with many badges have experience. I have many badges but I am a newbie. Thanks to partners and especially you I’m starting to understand what booking.com is all about. I just have many badges because I am active and try to gain information from all of you to become a better host.

There is a little of the ego thing with the badges as well. BDC would like the forum to have regular input so giving out badges is a way of massaging more activity from members.

It could also be a sign that those with full set badges, oops....guilty as charged me-lud, are just chatter-boxes, a useful trait in this trade!
