How to avoid cancellations

I have just got a msg from Booking.com about "how to reduce cancellations at your property". I will tell booking how to reduce cancellations: let parteners set their own cancellation policy (not imposing the booking's policy) or at least make harder options, for instance, If you cancel, your downpayment will be kept for future booking. You don't get it back nor loose, but you may use it in future bookings.  As easy as it is the existing options, it becomes an incentive to book and cancell later.

Alternatively only do prepayments and use Non Refundable rates and flexible rates with strict policy setting, I find that works a treat.

 

Yes I still on rare occasion get a cancellation waiver request, but after being blatantly lied to twice, I no longer entertain and simply decline. 

 

I do make one exception, if the booking check in date is at least 45 days away I will make it for someone sick or bereavement, but less than 45 days to check in its a clinical policy of denied.

 

In general people can avail of travel insurance via the ir bank card or credit card or a airline booking site provider.  

It will never be on the host to be the insurance provider to a guest.
