Winter pricing

Hi All

Am In New Zealand and we are now heading towards winter. It does get cold here! Just wondering about winter pricing strategy. All my booking sites say reduce your price to receive more bookings however my electricity bill goes astronomical during winter. I provide electric blankets and an electric heater. Judging by last years power bill I suspect the heater is on 24 hours a day. Any thoughts or comments from anyone?

Beginning to think I should just shut down for winter. Have 2 separate properties both fully insulated.

Mant thanks

Best Suejane

Hi Sjbwai

Welcome on board of the BDC group / forum and hosting group.

Yes, I am in New Zealand.

If you don't have to do this for a living I would close down and recharge!

Image you had a busy summer, now Easter...will be busy too.

I close in winter and recharged,

If you don't want to you could think of a pellet fire place instalment

It is a cost to your business so that would help with accountancy.

There are also small fireplaces that don't need huge chimneys. Heatpumps are also an option, but i find them too noisy.

We have free wood from the forest, so for us a fire-place is the most logic solution. There are still enough chilly nights left outside of winter that we use it - with success . People love it!

What part of NZ are you in?

Cheers

Hi

Thank you for your reply. Do I need Council consent for the fireplace you recommend.? No chimney in my Stables. Am in Waihi North Island. Last year I took in a WINZ lady, money was grand but never again. She turned into a total nightmare. Accomodation in my area is very scarce so could do a fixed term Tenancy lease. Am a retired Property Manager ! Know all about the disincentives.

Hope to get to the Caitlin Island one day.

Hi Sue Jane,

So you are thinking about a fireplace? That sounds so cosy!

You may have to ask your council for advise, since I don't know the exact situation in your area, but we did needed one for our fireplaces. We also needed to sign off after instalment of the chimney. (council)

Ask them about pellet fires aswell, since they may come under a different category.

Besides the quality beds, the fireplace does draw people in.

I have a Bosca in my unit, Italian brand and very good. It warms up the place in no time. And it is not too big. They have a variety of models too.

Hope this heps you .

Have a great easter,

Greetings

PS,

The Catlins is one hour south of Dunedin. Even going into southland.

It's pretty big! And most welcome any time.

Like Aaltje B. I close my place in winter since I do this not for living and the expenses are very high making hosting not worth it.
Wish you Happy Easter...

Do you have a cold winter Maria, and how do you warm up your place.

I just took a very nice photo of a construction I made myself.

I am sure you would love to see it.

I don't know how to insert it, since it didn't "accept" it.

Maybe in an email, but how do we share that without the world seeing it?

thinking here.

It is an Easter theme. .....

Talk later, bedtime now.

Greetings

Ella.
