    Unfortunately, nothing. In case the payments are not facilitated by B.com (‘Payments by Booking’) there is nothing you can do other than charge the credit card the guest provided. Since you are unable to do that as you do not have a POS, not being able to charge cancellations and no-shows is the risk you will need to take.

    The best way is to contact them at the time of booking and request them to confirm their say, If they do not respond it means its a fake reservation

    The best way is to signup for a online credit card facility.  Otherwise, you will always be on the losing end.  When we first started, we had the same problem.  Now we have a online credit card facility, we can take payment the moment the booking is made.  This way we also ensure that the credit card is not a false one.

    We have a 14 days cancellation policy with no fee... a few days prior this window I remind them they will need to contact me in order to secure their booking. If they don't reply, it is a fake reservation, then I reopen the dates they booked and I contact booking.com to advise them. Also you can reopen your dates to receive other bookings in the meantime, don't forget to put them on "no-show" 24hours after their check in day. 

    That way you can have other bookings and you don't have to support any commission on a fake reservation

    I work on a policy where I preauthorise every guests credit card 48 hours prior to arrival date.

    If the preauth goes through, brilliant, I can complete the transaction with a one night room stay even if the guest is a no show.

    If the preauth does not go through, I mark the card as invalid on booking.com and the guest has up until 2 pm the next day - which is still 24 hours before arrival time to update the credit card or I have the option too cancel the booking.

    how can you reopen the dates that are booked by the guests? I cannot do that, so even if I do not hear back from the prospective guest and I think they are not serious about turning up, I cannot reopen the dates. Only booking.com can cancel the booking.

    Is there a trick I do not know about?

    I do not have access to credit card facility either. I ask for a deposit soon after the guest makes a booking, but sometimes I get no response. It then takes for ever to get that booking cancelled buy booking.com

    It is very difficult to get a deposit from a guest if you do not have the credit card facility.  With booking.com, this is just an investment you need to take to protect yourself.  Booking.com does not do that.  All they are interested in is their commission not your sales.

    The only way to get booking.com to cancel a booking before the guest arrives is to write to the customer support and request them to do it.

    I have no idea how to get a credit card facility. Is that through booking.com, or through my bank?

    You need to get a credit card facility.  We process a deposit onto their card as soon as a booking is received, if the transaction is declined we can log it immediately, then cancel it if they fail to provide a valid card.

    It is not through booking.com.  You will have to find a merchant banker in your country that provides online credit card facilities for you.  Otherwise, you might want to also think of paypal - although this still depends on whether the guest wants to pay you or not.  But at least you will know if they do not pay within the time frame you stipulate.
