Aloha,  I have used lots of stain removers and most have not worked for me.  I have found that my favorite cleaner, Clorox Clean Up, works great on stains on my sheets and or towels.  Just spray both sides of the fabric where the stain is with it just before putting it in the wash and bam..no rust or stains.  Just make sure you spray the Clorox right before you wash.  If you spray it on fabric and let is sit it will eat through the fabric.  Mahalo

Moira and -Haleohana thanks for tips.

I prefer using white vinegar, baking soda or lemon.  I like eco friendly cleaning.  I soak overnight and next morning I wash them...

    Thanks for posting....

    Hello Moira,

I can completely relate what you are saying. My guesthouse is also very close to the beach. Where I spend a small fortune on good quality towels with a certain cotton count in them. Recently I've noticed that when guests use them to head to the beach for example, it sometime happens something on the beach creates marks on the white towels which can never be washed out, not to sure what it is, but it appears to leave a very light brow stain of some sort.

So as a result, I have decided to include Beige towels to my rooms as this eliminates loss of very good towels.

Hi, Maria yes so do I but with rust none of this helped, For normal stains Yes I love the vinegar route and it works perfectly. xxxx thank you for your input as well love. Brendan tx to you too. I discovered that the rust came from our towel rings that were supposed to be STAINLESS STEEL AND RUST FREE....we sprayed it all now with a clear varnish.....so this should solve my problems. Have a stunning day all sweet hosts.

Hi Brendan, I stopped using the white towels for the beach or pool. I bought nice beach towels in all kind of colors.

The white towels do give me some problems as well - they came back from the laundry with big yellow stain marks, just to find out, that it is a chemical reaction from the sun lotion the guests used and the laundry's washing powder. It turned to a huge problem to the  laundry company and they actually made a chemical analysis. I knock three times on wood - the last weeks it seems that this problem is solved.

Our water here in Wilderness in SA is sometimes very bad (muddy brown) or smells like pure chlorine so I'd rather send the linen and towels to one of the local laundry services. I know it is a bit cost effective but by the end it counts up. Just imagine: to iron one king size duvet it is 8 sqm.....

I have some older bed sheets with rust marks ( we are also close to the beach) and try your tip Moira ......sounds interesting. I think, these marks are from the washing machine itself, so here it seems, that a rust remover for washing machines should do the job - hopefully....

White Towel, the saga goes on  for all owner in establishment all over the world. Our supplier says that thousands are spent on them almost monthly. I also use vinegar, it is amazing and green. I can't believe what guest will use our towels for. Some of the worst are vomit, hairdye (who dyes their hair on holiday) instant tan, and make up. Most comes out with vinegar or I use borax.
